During 3 days a total of 40 volunteers came to help clear the area that will be taken by the screws and fish pass. This is a task which would otherwise be done by the contractor, and it is estimated to have saved about £6000. It was done now to ensure that birds would not be nesting there when construction is due to start.
Plenty of free firewood was produced (and soon taken away!)
The alder tree by the footpath was hollow and was getting dangerous, so it needed to come down anyway.
Inspection showed that birds had been nesting in it, but there was no sign of bats, so the plasic bags had done their job,
